Let me just start off by saying... what's not to love about a water park?? We came to Great Wolf Lodge over the weekend to celebrate my little cousin's 8th birthday, Happy Birthday Brooke!! We spent a lot of time at Fort Mackenzie, the lazy river, the wave pool, the slides, water basketball and even the kiddie pool. There was something to do for everyone!

I have been here once before, early last year but I don't remember much about the stay. This time however, I made sure to take plenty of pictures because I didn't want to miss out on a memory.

Included with your stay are water park passes that are exclusive to resort guests only, a fitness center, tons of kids activities, story time in the lobby and Howl-O-Ween (until the end of October). I'm going to break this all down for you, so you can plan the perfect vacation.

Booking Your Room

Great Wolf Lodge is a combination hotel and indoor/outdoor water park, I like to think of it as "the best of both worlds". The water park passes are included when you book your room. The day that you check into the lodge, you will have access to the water park starting at 1pm, even though check-in isn't until 4pm. You will also have all day access to the water park after check out at 11am. My advice to you would be to check-in early so you can utilize the water park, although they may not have a room available for you before 4pm, they are nice enough to email you when your room is ready.

The key to saving on your room are promos and specials! So sign up for the email list - you'll be so glad that you did because they often send out coupon codes. To get an exclusive member deal, with rates starting at $219.99 plus a $50/night dining credit, click here. Take advantage of the deals! I also linked more coupons that you can print and redeem at Great Wolf Lodge after you have booked your stay. Who doesn't love a good deal??

You can save up to 40% when you book early. If you reserve at least 60 days in advance, you can take advantage of this special offer. If you plan this right, you will be able to enjoy Snowland! I've never been before, but I can imagine it would feel like you're vacationing in a magical winter wonderland similar to Lake Tahoe but minus the 8 hour drive. Check it out on their website, under 'Featured Deals'.

Sometimes you can find a Groupon deal for Great Wolf Lodge. In fact, I remember seeing a deal last month but they do book up fast and the Groupon Getaway deals for GWL are limited. Be sure to keep checking back in case they offer it again.

The Room

The rooms are a decent size. You can choose from a Family Suite, KidCabin Suite or a Grand Bear Suite. Each room comes with a coffee maker, a microwave and a dorm sized refrigerator that can hold quite a lot. I wish I brought popcorn for popping! The kids would've loved munching on popcorn while watching the Disney Channel.
  • The Family Suite - This suite includes two queen beds as well as a living area with a full-size sofa sleeper.
  • The KidCabin Suite - This suite features a log cabin-themed sleeping area, three twin beds, a queen bed and a full-size sofa sleeper.
  • The Grand Bear Suite - This suite features a private master bedroom with a king bed, two queen beds and a full-size sofa sleeper in the main area.

The Water Park

Get there early to save your seat! Just like a movie theater, you want a good seat in a prime location. On a weekend, this may be hard to come by so try to get there as early as you can. I think a seat in front of the wave pool or Fort Mackenzie is ideal, because you are in the center of the entire water park. Once we got into the water park and found some seats, we threw our towels down and headed straight to the rides.

My favorite ride (although the wait was insanely long) was Wolf Rider Wipeout. Originally, I was so scared to try this ride but I did and what a BLAST! I caught my first wave on this indoor surf simulator. Yayyy! The kids had so much fun riding on the body board too; Brady even wiped out but he took it like a champ! It was a proud mommy moment for me because I thought he was going to flip out and be too scared to try it again but I was soooo wrong. He wasn't scared at all, in fact, he tried it again and attempted to do some tricks. When I asked him what his favorite ride was at the end of the day, he said "all of it." He loved every ride at the park.

Another area that we spent a lot of time at was Fort Mackenzie. Addie had so much fun going down all of the water slides. Can you tell how much she loved it from the pictures? These slides were perfect for her and kept her entertained for hours.

I didn't want to spend all day indoors since it was such a beautiful day outside. Addie and I took advantage of the warm October weather and spent some time at the outdoor pool soaking up some sun while the bigger kids went on Coyote Cannon. The water was only 3ft deep and it had a basketball court and play area where we could splash around in.

Howl-O-Ween

I'm so glad that we got to experience this before it ended. For the entire month of October, GWL transformed their resort into a spooktacular Halloween theme. There was a monster bash dance party that was held outside and a trick-or-treat trail for the little ones. Did I mention that the decor was 'to die for'?! (Haha...give me some credit!!)

I had so much fun this weekend and so did the munchkins!! Spending two nights here is ideal, but you could probably get away with one night. I would recommend Great Wolf Lodge to everyone, there are activities for all ages. The kiddos are already asking when we can go back.

I took sooooo many pictures but couldn't upload all of them. Here are a few of my favorites.
